Europe: Heavy rainfall hits greenhouses, Belgium grower drowns

Due to extremely bad weather conditions last Sunday, large amounts of rainwater have caused many troubles at the greenhouses for many growers in the Netherlands and Belgium. In Belgium, a 49 year old greenhouse grower drowned in the water storage basin while checking the installation during a heavy storm.

Particularly the growers in the areas around De Lier and Pijnacker, saw a lot of rainwater coming in to their greenhouses. In some cases the water stood 20 centimeters high in between the crops. Since Sunday afternoon the local firemen have been busy to dry pumping the greenhouses.
