UNICA backs organic and convenience products to continue growing

The range of organic products has been part of Unica Group since its foundation, and although its associated firm and citrus supplier Agrieco was forced out of business last year, this does not mean that UNICA will abandon that market; quite the opposite. "We are now stronger with the integration of Cooperativa Parque Natural since June. We wish to strengthen the relationship with our clients and continue following closely through them the evolution of the organic market," explains David Murcia, Marketing Manager of Unica Group.

"And we are not just talking about commodity organic products, as we seek to provide value added to both premium and convenience products. We believe that organic production is not the only way for innovation," he affirms.

A clear example of Unica's focus on innovation are the projects linked to the development of the snack segment in Europe, for which they continue making progress in the READY, VEGGY, GO! range, with products such as the ANGELLO™ red sweet seedless peppers, the PEPO courgettes for salads, or the recently introduced MyCubies® fresh mini cucumbers. "These convenience snack products are constantly growing and a lot of progress can still be done both in terms of production and innovation."

In line with this diversification and innovation strategy, Unica's plan for the coming three years consists in the making of selections and variety conversions determined by flavour and market demand, seeking, at the same time, the maximum profitability for those varieties. "We have already achieved this with the TOMAZUR® tomato, which has a stable flavour all year round. It is essential to listen to what the market needs, and what does it demand? It demands, above all, flavour."

But this does not mean that everything has been done. "Our philosophy is to give continuity to the projects we have already started to consolidate them in the market," he added.

Green Giant Fresh is the brand that allows Unica Group to reach consumers with conventional and specialty products, something they plan to achieve from now on with its new brand, Green Giant Fresh Eco, in the organic product range, which will be presented at the coming edition of Fruit Attraction, to take place between 16 and 18 October in Madrid.
