Spain: Tomatoes are being traded at half the price than last year

Comparing the prices in week 38 of 2013 (from 16 to 22 September) with those in the same week of 2012 (17-23 September), according to data from the Observatory of Prices and Markets Andalusia, the campaign has behaved differently in terms of the prices of vegetables, with a marked drop for tomatoes, an increase in pepper prices and maintaining the price of cucumbers.

Tomatoes
Long life tomatoes had an average price of 0.68 € /kg in week 38 of 2012 and fell 45.59%, 0.37€/kg, in the same week in 2013.
 
Pear tomatoes' price went down by 26.15%, as their average price was of 0.65€/kg in week 38 of 2012 and, in this year's weed 38, are at € 0.48/kg.

Vine tomatoes suffered the biggest drop in price as, in the week that's being analyzed, their average price was of 0.65 €/kg in 2012 and in this year they are being sold at an average price of 0.29€/kg; a 55.38 %decrease.

Cucumbers
Cucumbers have had a similar performance in week 38 of 2013 with respect to the same week in 2012. The French cucumber, however, proved to be the exception. Its price decreased by 45 %, from € 0.2/kg last year to a price that hasn't gone above 0.11€/kg this year.

The short cucumber has been sold at the same price (0.18 €/kg), while the Dutch cucumber has had a minimal drop from 0.27€/kg in week 38 of 2012 to 0.26€/kg this year.

Peppers
Meanwhile, in general, pepper prices have improved, except the Italian variety, the only variety that lowered its price.

Green lamuyo prices remained virtually unchanged from 0.41 €/kg in 2012 to 0.42 €/kg in 2013.

Red lamuyo prices increased 12.07%, from 0.58 €/kg in 2012 to 0.65 in the same week in 2013.

Green california prices also remained stable, from 0.43€/kg in 2012 to 0.42 in week 38 of 2013.

Red california prices increased by 26 % as they were sold at 0.63 €/kg in week 38 of 2013 and at 0.50 in the same week last year.

The increase of yellow california prices has been notable as it was being traded at an average price of 0.81 €/kg in week 38 of 2013 and at 0.52 in the same week of 2012; a 55.76% increase.

Italian peppers came down from an average price of 0.7 €/kg in week 38 of 2012 to 0.49€/kg in the same week this year.
