"We only provide nourishment if the plant needs it"

At the 11-ha. vegetable company 't Bleekerven BV of Peter and Janine Aarts, the challenge is to deliver the best possible quality product at the lowest possible cost. The couple’s cucumbers are sold by company. "Through our sales organization, we try as much as possible to respond to the needs of our end customers. Sustainable production is one of our priorities." In recent trials, both growers experienced the good performance of Grodan’s Pro Blocks for themselves. 

Aarts completely switched to Pro Blocks. A conscious choice after several cultivation trials. The decisive factor in the choice of Pro Blocks was the good crop development in the beginning and the ensuing root growth. "The plants are slightly heavier, the fruit construction seems slightly faster and there is less fruit rejection. Furthermore, the roots are evenly spread, and that's important because the roots are the engine of the plant," says Rudi Lenaers of 't Bleekerven. Aarts himself adds: "Above ground the plant looks vital. But it’s up to the grower to take all those benefits and eventually turn them into additional production."
