“The conventional way that double screens are made is to have both screens connected,” explained Novavert's Niclas Heescher. “The top and bottom layers are always connected, which means you have to replace both screens when the top layer degrades after a few years.” The Quattro system, on the other hand, allows growers to replace each screen individually. So when the top layer of a rectractable roof system needs to be replaced after several years of use, there's usually no need to replace the bottom layer, as it's not as exposed. That cuts down on costs and saves growers money.The system also allows growers to adjust the space between the layers, meaning that a high degree of customization is available.
“You can adapt the system to your requirements,” noted Heescher. “You can increase the air cushion when you adjust the space between the screens.” That makes it possible to tailor the insulation to the specific climate in which the grower has his greenhouse. That flexibility makes it possible for growers to make the adjustments necessary to get the most out of the Quattro system and their retractable roof system.
“With this system I am pretty sure that it will beat existing retractable roof systems in terms of energy saving and probably come close to glass,” said Heescher.
