Sri Lanka: Vegetable seed project in cooperation with Japanese technology

The first stage of a project to produce high yielding vegetable seeds using Japanese technology was launched at the Maha Illuppallama government farm on May 8 with an awareness programme for agricultural officers on the cultivation of brinjal, tomato, snake gourd seeds on pots according to a Japanese technique.

The programme funded by JAICA will be later extended to the Nikaweratiya, Kundasale and Aluththara farms later. The use of mother seeds provided under this programme would help vegetable growers to increase yields for growers in Sri Lanka by almost 20 percent, said Assistant Agriculture Director H M J K Herath.
