The Air Trays® are well-known in the industry and have been highly popular among growers. Traditionally produced in black, posed a challenge in recycling facilities due to their inability to be detected by optical sorters. That's why Blackmore launched gray Air Trays at Cultivate 2025.

The products are on display at the show, and although it might not seem like a major change, it proves to be a big one, Mads Jensen says. He explains Blackmore designed them with sustainability and recycling efficiency in mind.

"Gray Air Trays® made from recycled plastics without carbon-black pigment are now recyclable using standard near-infrared (NIR) sorting — unlike traditional black trays, which often fail recycling streams", he explains. "By providing gray as an option, our Air Trays® can now be more easily identified and sorted in standard recycling streams, significantly reducing landfill waste and supporting a circular economy."
Same quality, smarter design
"Our goal is to maintain the same high-quality product while making a meaningful improvement in sustainability. The color change might seem simple, but it has a major impact on the recyclability of the Air Trays."
The new gray Air Trays® can be ordered directly through Blackmore.
