Yasar Türkoglu from Bio4Pack GmbH:

"Our Paddy Straw trays are enjoying steady growth"

"Our Paddy Straw trays are enjoying steady growth, especially for fruit and vegetables," reports Yasar Türkoglu, Sales Manager DACH at Bio4Pack GmbH, during an interview on-site. The Nordhorn-based company has been selling sustainable trays for seven years now and has steadily expanded its product range. The trays are manufactured by an exclusive partner in Malaysia from rice waste and other agricultural residues. "Except for liquids, we have now developed the right tray for almost every product, including products with a high moisture content such as button mushrooms and the like. This means that we have been able to win customers for our solution not only in the organic sector but also outside it."

The PPWR packaging regulation, which will be phased in until 2030, is an absolute game changer in the field of fruit and vegetable packaging. The Bio4Pack sales team expects that the change in legislation will only give further momentum to the demand for compostable, sustainable packaging, especially Paddy Straw trays. "With our sustainable trays, we are already well-equipped for the future: They are open, i.e., can be used without film or sealing, are very robust and transportable, and therefore offer excellent value for money." In certain markets, including Sweden, demand has already risen sharply, Türkoglu continues. "A major disadvantage for our customers is that the PPWR is accompanied by a great deal of uncertainty so that retail chains and their packaging companies still don't know exactly where the journey is headed."

An additional warehouse was built in 2022 to meet the growing demand for Paddy Straw trays. "We receive a container delivery every two to three weeks and always have a buffer available thanks to the additional storage space. We also have further expansion options at this location, enabling us to respond to growth in the medium to long term in line with the PPWR packaging regulation," concludes Yasar Türkoglu.
