The Italian company C-Led continues its partnerships with prominent Italian companies and research institutions. One of the most recent partnerships is with SIS (Società Italiana Sementi), based in the province of Bologna. "It is a source of great pride for us at C-Led to collaborate with a historic and important company like SIS, which boasts a cutting-edge research group," says Sales Manager Raffaello Montanari. In today's world, evaluating every stage of plant growth is crucial, and proper lighting is essential to the success of any project."

C-LED collaborated with researchers from SIS who were conducting research, genetic improvement, and experimentation at the San Lazzaro di Savena site. "The first installation we started with," explains Technician Representative Cristian D'Elia, "was the relamping of obsolete HPS lamps in the phytotron, which is an air-conditioned cell where temperature and humidity can be managed for the growth and development of selected genetics, such as F1 generations of wheat."
Paolo De Franceschi and Alberto Tassinari of SIS add: "The term F1 generation refers to the first generation of plants that were produced by crossing two distinct varieties. This step is part of the traditional genetic improvement process, which aims to enhance characteristics such as yield, disease resistance, and nutritional quality."

"In this case," Montanari and D'Elia continue, "given the absence of sunlight, LED lamps are indispensable: High-efficiency, full-spectrum (full-PAR) lamps were provided, offering a balanced distribution across the various wavelengths. The lighting scheme was designed to define the intensity levels needed to support healthy, vigorous plant growth, while ensuring excellent uniformity across the entire production area. The system design also specified the number, type, layout, and mounting height of the fixtures."
The C-LED lamps also offer the possibility of adjusting the light intensity if necessary, allowing SIS researchers to set the desired photoperiod in the different multiplication cycles of their experimental lines.

"We then worked on relamping the experimental glass greenhouse," continues D'Elia. Again, the lighting was designed to the client's specifications, with the goal of maximizing plant growth and vitality to support the scientific research being conducted by De Franceschi and his colleagues. Through analysis and measurements, SIS researchers will be able to identify the characteristics and strengths of their lines; the best will become new varieties to be marketed nationally and internationally in the future". In this case, the goal was to use LED lamps to supplement sunlight and optimize the photoperiod in the fall-winter season.
Significantly better results were achieved compared to the outdated HPS lamps, while reducing energy consumption, which is essential for keeping costs down and achieving a greener footprint.© Cristiano Riciputi | HortiDaily.com
