Early spring has impacted Crimea's strawberry harvest

The early spring has significantly impacted this year's strawberry harvest in the peninsula of Crimea. In the greenhouses of Crimea, the strawberry harvest is in full swing. Soon, berries grown in open ground will be available for sale.

On the 10 hectares of the "Holmovskaya Sweet Strawberry" agricultural firm in the Bakhchisarai district, harvesting began three weeks earlier than usual, in early April, and will extend until July. The firm's director acknowledges that, thanks to the weather conditions, the harvest may be good, but there are concerns about its quality due to stress caused by temperature fluctuations.

In 2023, the Holmovka area yielded 10–12 tons of strawberries per hectare, and a similar or even higher level of harvest is expected this year.

In total, 600 hectares of agricultural land in Crimea are dedicated to strawberries. However, the share of berries among other agricultural crops in Crimea is small. According to the minister, in 2023, Crimean farmers harvested 199,000 tons of fruit and berries, with only 2,000 tons accounted for strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and other berries.
