Retail prices for vegetables in Kazakhstan continue to rise, according to data from the National Statistics Bureau. At the beginning of this year, average prices increased by 7.8%, with some products even surging by 20%. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers lead the price hikes.
However, a decrease in prices may be delayed due to abnormal weather conditions, rising energy resource costs, and changes in market dynamics. Auctions are appearing for the sale of greenhouse complexes, but their conditions aren't always favorable for investors.
Meanwhile, regional authorities plan to construct new greenhouse complexes to boost vegetable production. Currently, there are only 29 operational greenhouses in the Zhambyl region, while plans for the construction of 421 complexes remain unrealized.
Additionally, in 2023, 29 agricultural producers in the region yielded 2,800 tons of produce from 14.8 hectares of land (with two harvests). This statistic reflects the current productivity levels in greenhouse farming.
Thus, the decrease in vegetable prices in Kazakhstan's regions may be prolonged until several economic and climatic challenges are overcome.
