Gremon launches new Trutina system:

"Keep you updated on every breath your plants take"

Seeing a real time activity of a crop and adjust the growing strategies based on this information from basically any location. This was the objective of Hungarian horticultural solutions provider Gremon Systems when developing their Trutina weight based activity evaluation and decision tool. After years of research and development, Gremon Systems will be launching the solution and its mobile platform in September this year.

Gremon Systems was founded 6 years ago partly as a result of a spin-off project of a Hungarian University that was researching the opportunities of analyzing plant growth with remote technology. "From the very beginning we were exploring the possibilities to see if we could create a tool that would be able to measure plant weight and the growth trends of a crop and and translate this data into a visual platform in order to optimize growing strategies", explained János Lóczi of Gremon.

Together with his partners, János developed a weighing system which measures the growth of the plant and the weight of the crop and substrate. This system is now able to use this data to show real time plant activity and provide accurate climate and irrigation strategy advice in order to optimize growth and yield.

Gremon Systems’s Trutina can get access to the most important data on the physiological changes of the plants, making the strategy for irrigation significantly easier. "Our system is able to calculate the given amount of irrigation water, drain tendency, water uptake speed and the plant energy balance as well so the grower will be able to monitor how his plants react to different circumstances and plan his irrigation more effective."

Gremon Systems claims to be different from other weight based information tools available on the market due to their cloud based analysis. János: "Our system is a real time solution which measure weight and based on this calculates very precisely actual drain. We can see the water uptake speed of the crop and show real time plant activity based on the information the system gets every 5 seconds. This data is send towards our cloud based software that will then figure out the relations within mathematical models. These models are able to show for example the relations between biomass production and water uptake speed or the relation between the actual available light inside the greenhouse and its actual crop growth."

According to János, the system is completely developed within the Internet of Things approach. "The tool is the Trutina hardware, but the actual power lies withing the cloud based system. Its accessible from any location and visualizes all the data real time on your smartphone or computer. A dashboard simplifies all the output and makes it better understandable to analyze the graphs and obtain the most relevant information very quickly. This provides a handy and quick source of information to determine the irrigation and climate strategy."

Gremon's support apps are available on PC, Mac, tablets and Android or iPhone cellphones.

The first commercial version of the Trutina system became available last year and was immediately adopted by leading Eastern European growers like Mularski, Vegapol, Botoma Group and many more. In September this year, Gremon will update the system with the launch of their premium and basic cloud based support systems. "We offer several versions of our cloud based support programs to give the growers advice based on the expertise of a professional crop consultant."

János concluded by saying that Trutina is an independent system which could be installed easily no matter what technical background does the grower has.
