Who will take home the first global Vertical Farming Award?
The Association for Vertical Farming (AVF), an international non-profit organization, is the competition organizer. To be eligible for the award, candidates must be currently enrolled at a university or graduated in the past six months. Teams can be a maximum of five people but they are not required to reside in the same location. Team submissions must be entered by March 31, 2016.
Illumitex is committed to empowering the younger generation and future horticultural growers. During the competition, teams are required to participate in webinars covering crop selection, lighting, etc. Director of Research and Development at Illumitex, Rebecca Knight PhD, shares her excitement about the competition. “From Ghana to Bolivia, we are reaching students globally and by utilizing new technology, interdisciplinary student teams are able to collaborate with experts in vertical farming.”
Horticultural Sales Manager of Vertical Farming/Turn-Key Solutions Paul Hardej will be 1 of 4 experts judging the competition. Teams will be judged on the overall design of their conceptual vertical farm. “I’ve been involved with the Association of Vertical Farming for years; I’m honored to have been chosen as a judge for this competition,” states Hardej.
