"Plants have the natural ability to absorb carbon dioxide. If we can find an effective way to utilize this ability, the benefits from carbon neutrality will be much higher than the benefits from agricultural products themselves," said Mr Alpha, Founder of Zhejiang Zhonggu Alpha Agricultural Science & Technology Co.
"Energy is one of the biggest challenges in the development of greenhouse horticulture, and the use of energy needs to be adapted to local conditions. In addition to combined heat and power, photovoltaic, geothermal energy, etc., the utilization of agricultural waste can also be one of the solutions", he adds.
China is a large agricultural country, which produces a large amount of crop residues and animal manure every day. In addition, high fertilizer application also increases greenhouse gas emissions. "If we can set up agricultural waste centers according to local conditions, we will utilize this waste again. For example, we can recycle crop waste such as tomato straw from greenhouse production, to generate biogas through anaerobic digester and other technologies. Biogas consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide, and the separated methane can be used to generate electricity, while the carbon dioxide can be reused for the growth of greenhouse tomatoes and other crops. In addition, the digestate and methane can be reused as liquid and solid fertilizer respectively."
"We have been working on the project in the southern region of China since 2022, and have had many communications with related companies for relevant technics. We retrying to promote the project together with the Tsinghua Changsan Institute in Zhejiang Province. Now we are preparing for the construction of greenhouses, as well as actively discussing the waste center with other energy storage companies. We also welcome companies interested in this to contact us."
