Vegetable prices rise in Russia, cucumbers see highest increase

Over the last month, Rosstat has reported a rise in vegetable prices in Russia, with cucumbers experiencing the most significant increase of 9.5%.

Experts attribute this to seasonal factors: from November to December, cucumber prices traditionally go up as open-field vegetables are replaced by greenhouse-grown ones. During the winter, prices could surge by more than 70%, reaching €3.3 per kilogram by the end of January.

The cost of cucumbers has fluctuated since the beginning of the year: in March, they were priced at €1.9, dropped to €1.1 by July, and rose again to €1.7 per kg by November.

Last week, vegetables overall became 3.6% more expensive, with tomatoes increasing by 6.7%, cabbage by 2.5%, onions by 2%, and potatoes by 1.4%.
