The Austrian company Veganis is currently constructing a new organic greenhouse, along with infrastructure, on a 5.5-hectare area (of which 3.2 hectares are production space) in St. Andrä am Zicksee (Burgenland). "It will be the largest and most modern organic greenhouse of its kind in Eastern Austria, complete with a packing hall, refrigeration rooms, staff areas, office, essentially everything needed for the operation to function autonomously," Veganis CEO Christoph Mick told BVZ.
Veganis GmbH, located in St. Andrä am Zicksee, is an organic production and trading company. Founders Michael Pilsel and Christoph Mick settled in the Seewinkel community in 2012 and have since been producing organic vegetables such as tomatoes, red radishes, melanzani, and much more directly on site on the one hand and selling fruit from certified organic cultivation from all over the world on the other.
The completion of the new greenhouse "Bio Gemüsewelt Seewinkel" (the project's name) is expected within this year, with initial production anticipated around mid-February, focusing initially on cucumbers and tomatoes, according to Mick.

True to its motto, "organics in motion", cultivation is based upon traditional, time-honoured knowledge. Veganis GmbH were the first company in Austria to enable laser engraving on fruit and vegetables. Rubner helped build a new packaging and processing hall in St. Andrä.
The purpose of the new construction project is to combine sustainability and technology as best as possible. Because: "Land will become increasingly scarce in the future, the population is growing, and getting a healthy and good yield from a square meter of soil works best when technology is integrated," says the Veganis CEO.
